Huntsville Workshop — Gardening for Success — April 19

We are thrilled for this upcoming workshop "Gardening for Success" in partnership with Julia Sutton, owner and operator of Santosha Organic Vegetable Farm just o Burks Falls. 
With a background as an educator in gardening and other plant related fields, Julia will be bringing a wealth of information to help each of us learn the tools we need to bring success to our gardens. Bring a notebook! 
We will be covering the following topics: 
Prepping Your Beds
  • Soil types
  • Soil nutrients and mycorrhizal fungae
  • No till versus till
  • Cover Crops on a very small scale

Direct Seeding and Transplanting

  • Typical crops for direct seeding and what seeds need to be started indoors
  • Supplies needed for starting indoors
  • Seed and seedling sourcing

Supporting Pollinators and Beneficials Year-Round

  • Importance of supporting insects
  • European honeybee versus native bees
  • Incorporating plants within and outside of your garden
  • Other beneficial garden animals - toads, frogs and snakes

Garden Maintenance and Clean Up

  • Growing season tasks
  • Fall tasks
  • Spring tasks
