An engaging guide to the art of forest bathing, inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, for anyone who wants to explore the transformative power of nature in promoting health and happiness.
Forest bathing is the art of spending intentional time in nature and is practiced throughout the world to increase health and restore well-being. More and more people are turning to forest bathing as an evidence-based way to unplug, relieve stress and anxiety, and spark creativity.
Through simple invitations to slow down, walk in silence, cultivate tree energy, and connect with the sun and forest, this book enables you to incorporate the inspiring benefits of time spent in nature—a calm mind, renewed energy, boosted creativity, and inner peace—into your daily life to find deeper meaning and contentment.
I highly recommend Julia Plevin's "The Healing Magic of Forest Bathing" - for many reasons. I used to work at a bookstore and wish I still did just so I could help people navigate all the new trendy books out there on connecting to nature. This one for sure stands out. (To clarify - "forest bathing" is not about taking a literal bath, but about intentionally walking through trees and nature and connecting to a deeper place within ourselves and with the earth).
I appreciate the way Plevin intertwines a call to action for the earth within her call to action for ourselves. Plevin's articulation of the power of our connection to the earth, not just as something separate from ourselves, but as something we all are a part of, really resonated with me. More so, I love the way she doesn't just eloquently theorize, but walks the reader through ways to implement the ancient ideas in our hectic lives. I've been on my own path of connecting deeper with my body, working on anxiety, and as an avid trail runner, this book helped me slow down and find connections in a whole new, beautiful way. I found her website (juliaplevin dot com) and Forest Bathing Club and wish my schedule allowed me to join her in the great events and trips she leads.
There is a great balance of her citing support for her narrative, but within her own voice. A voice that is so needed in the present times, but speaks beyond current day issues to a bigger picture. As much as "authenticity" may feel overused these days, I felt I could really connect to the presence of her voice. You will be glad you started follow Plevin's writing now.
"The Healing Magic..." is a great book for you or anyone in your life to keep in your day bag, desk or on bedside for whenever you need a few words of inspiration. I also love this book for the way it speaks to people beyond stereotypes, whether you see yourself as an outdoorsy type, steward of the environment or just someone who spends too much time in a world of concrete - this book IS for you. — Caroline214
