Natural Lotion Recipe from Bare Bum Naturals

Crystal of Bare Bum Naturals recently came to the store to teach us how to make us one of her luxurious body lotions. She has kindly agreed to let us share her recipe with our customers! Making your own lotions at home is as easy as pie, maybe even easier. The only trick is to find the necessary ingredients. Thankfully there are many reputable sources available online such as bulkapothecary.com or newdirectionsaromatics.ca.

Natural Lotion Recipe

Place 650ml of water and 100ml of rose water in a saucepan over medium heat on your stovetop; heat until bubbles form.

In a separate saucepan, over medium heat, warm 58g of polawax and 50 ml of fractionated coconut oil until melted. Fractionated coconut oil that has had fatty acids removed to produce a liquid-oil at room temperature. It also has the benefit of making the resulting lotion more shelf stable.

Pour the heated WATER onto the oil, not the other way around as it may not set properly. Pour back and forth until the desired texture is reached.

Melt together 200 g coconut oil and 5 ml grapefruit seed extract, or vitamin E, and blend together using an immersion blender for best results. Add any desired essential oils that do not irritate skin such as lavender, orange, neroli, rose, lemon, peppermint, or rosemary. Avoid wintergreen, and cassia/cinnamon as they may irritate the skin.
